This is a region of variety and contrast - croplands, wild natural habitats, tumbling waterfalls, white sandy beaches, rugged mountains, dairy pastures, mining areas and hop fields. It's a place for summer walks and swims or winter walks and skiing.
Things To Do
- In winter, ski on Ben Lomond, in summer take in the mountain's alpine heathlands.
- Visit the southern hemisphere's largest oil producing lavender farm at Bridestowe Estate, Nabowla.
Pull into Sideling Lookout above Scottsdale for sweeping farmland and Bass Strait views.- Near Ringarooma, see Ralph Falls, Tasmania's highest single drop waterfall.
- Catch a wave or a fish at Bridport, the North East's seaside holiday town.
- See the historic Chinese Cemetery and Australia's oldest privately owned power station at Moorina.
- Pan for tin at Derby Tin Mine Centre.
- Visit Blue Lake, a tranquil azure lake in the old Endurance Tin Mine off the Herrick-Gladstone Road.
- Explore Mt William National Park for history, wildlife, plant life and long, empty beaches.
- Drive (slowly) around Mt William's Forester Drive to see Tasmania's large native kangaroos in their natural habitat.
- Take the short walk from near Pyengana to St Columba Falls.
- Explore the spectacular sand dunes at St Helens or charter a yacht or fishing boat. The St Helen's History Room is also worth a visit.
- North from St Helen's, visit the Bay of Fires and The Gardens Coastal Reserves (near Binalong Bay).
